About SepticReference

Last updated

SepticReference is an independent reference site about residential septic systems in the United States. It's for homeowners, home buyers and rural property owners who need a straight, specific answer: how big a tank they need, what a new system costs, why an alarm is going off, or whether a product is safe to flush.

Who runs it

The site is run by Kemal, the site editor. He is responsible for what is published and reviews every page before it goes live. We are not a septic contractor and do not sell septic products or services.

How pages are written

Pages are written with the help of AI tools. That is a drafting aid, not a source. Every fact, number, fee and rule on a page must trace to a primary source listed at the bottom of that page: the US EPA, state and county health or environmental departments, university cooperative extensions, standards bodies such as NSF, and manufacturer specification sheets. If we can't find a primary source for something, we say so or leave it out. Full details are in our editorial policy.

How it is funded

The site is funded by display advertising (Google AdSense). We don't publish sponsored content, collect leads, or use affiliate links. Advertisers have no influence on what we write.

What this site is not

It isn't a substitute for a licensed septic professional, a soil evaluator, or your local health department. Septic permits are required for new installations and replacements in every state, and your permit — not a website — sets the legal design of your system.
